Shot List

These are the list of the shots that take place in my video, from the beginning of my video to the end, I have also given the time for how long to actual clip lasts.

1- Close up shot of man gradually looking up with hood up- Dark scene- Adds tension during slow guitar rift, wearing a green semi rough coat. 0:00-0:07

2-Close up shot of a bottle of wine 0:07-0:09

3-Camera pulls out of the close up shot to a medium shot of me getting up very slowly and walking down the path 0:09-0:20

4-Next shot shows a medium shot of me in front of the camera this time 0:21-24

5-Camera transitions to a low angle shot, this shot is facing up at me as I walk over the camera, shows the character is in a slump, and is depressed.0:25-0:27

6-The camera then pulls out to a long shot, this shot was used on a tripod, there is movement but that is because the person filming was following the character. I walk closer to the camera in which I eventually cover the camera with my body. 0:28-0:36

7- The camera then transitions smoothly from the last shot and pulls out to me singing lyrics at a medium shot. 0:37-0:42

8- We then see a high angle shot of me kicking a stone in somewhat frustration, this is a high angle shot to clarify again I am dominant and clearly frustrated with what as occurred before. 0:43-0:46

9-Again we transition to a medium close up shot of me singing the lyrics again, the cameraman uses a tracking shot here to move smoothly with me, this creates the effect I am again walking away from my troubles. 0:47-0:50

10-As this shot progresses, we see the camera zooming out from which was medium shot of me walking with a bottle of wine, to eventually establishing a long shot. 0:51-0:54

11- A transition named black to white is used to smoothly bring in a scene at day light, this shot is a 2+ shot because there is more than one person in scene, this again is shot on tripod to try and provide maximum stability. 0:55-0:58

12- Another transition, this to a white to black transition, this is used because it has gone from day time to night time, again the camera pulls to a medium shot of me sending a text, we then see the camera track me as I walk down the path.0:59-1:03

13- This is the first time this shot is used in my video, it is a close up shot of me sending a text to my "girl friend" the lyrics which were currently being played over the video, we shot this by placing my camera of my shoulder to give the effect you are almost looking through my eyes at what I am saying. 1:04-1:07

14- We again use the same shot as shot 11, this because it would be the same shot in real life, so we felt we did not need to change the point of view of the character or the camera, 1:08-1:11

15-The camera then switches to a long shot of me walking away from the camera, again this was shot on a tripod. 1:12-1:18

16- The location and the shot changes from a long to a medium shot, the camera is pointing at me lip syncing, after I have done this, the camera then moves downwards and follows the white line on the road. 1:19-127

17- Another Location change, this time to a long shot of me sitting against a lamp post, this is a long shot due to the fact we wanted the include the background and what I was lying against. 1:28-1:33

18-This is a fairly quick shot, we see the camera follow the lamppost up, and focus on the light, this shot is used to add a variety of shots, it is also in time for when the drums start playing. 1:34-136

19-We then transition to a high angle shot of me trying to walk up the stairs, this is at a high angle shot to show I am very vulnerable and very intoxicated. 1:37-1:42

20- The camera then changes to an extreme close up of me trying to get the key in the door, a very common and generic way of knowing somebody is drunk. 1:43-1:46

21- We then see me walking through my bedroom door, this is again is at a medium shot. 1:47-1:51

22- The shot then very smoothly changes, we then see me at a low angle shot, I believe this is effective because you get the whole effect that he is definitely drunk, and just wants to make it to be. 1:52-1:54

23- We then again see a white to black transition, this used because of me throwing my jacket onto the camera, we then see me lying on the bed shot at a long shot, as I gradually get up, this turns to a close up shot, where you just see my shoulders and my head. 1:55-2:06

24- This time a black to white transition is used due to fact my eye where looking at the sun, this transition is to suggest it is the morning is well, the camera is at the same position it was before the transition was made, we then see me turn around, the camera follows me, and starts to shoot me using an over the shoulder shot singing the lyrics.2:07-2:15

25-We then again see a black to white transition to the same shot of me singing the lyrics before, this time I was not singing, I was tucking my shirt in.2:16-2:19

26- Again, we are at the same shot, an over the shoulder shot of me in the mirror, in this shot, I am brushing my hair, I then grab my and jacket and whisk it over the camera. 2:20-2:25

27- As the jacket goes over the camera, this allows a smooth transition to a close up shot of me reminiscing out the window and singing. 2:26-2:32

28- We then see the camera tracking a car as it goes by, this is after the lyrics "for someone that who has a car" 2:33-2:35

29- We then change to a new location, it is an over the shoulder shot of me washing my face, lifting my head up and singing the lyrics in the mirror. 2:36-2:40

30- Again we see the low angle shot used, this time it is used to demonstrate he is a changed man, we see him spraying aftershave on his neck and sorting his hair out. 2:41-2:44

31- The camera then switches to me walking down the stairs, I feel this is relevant because while I am doing this the lyrics are "You're just know know one who's going no where soon". 2:45-2:50

32- We then see the camera at a close up shot of me opening the door, this is timed very well, when he opens the door, the main chorus just starts again.2:51-2:52

33- The location again changes to an extreme close up shot of a bottle beer, this is a particular favourite shot mine due to the fact you think he is going to grab the beer, but instead he grabs the banana from behind. 2:53-2:55

34-The camera again changes angels to an over the shoulder shot of me drinking a cup of coffee and a reading the paper, as you would do before you go out to work for example.
2:56-2:57

35-Again we change to an extreme close up, this time it is of a packet of paracetamol's, you would usually take these after a hangover, but instead of choosing them, he takes the flowers. I enjoy this two shots because of the unpredictability of them both. 2:58-3:00

36- Again, another extreme close up shot of me tying my very smart shoes, again, this is the complete opposite from the night before, in which I was drinking and being very rebellious, whereas I am now a changed man and looking for a fresh start to the day. 3:01-3:05

37- The final shot, is of me walking out door, ready to start a new day. 3:06-3:10

Inspirational Album Covers

In my project, it will not not be me just creating a music video, I will also be creating a CD album cover and also an insert for my CD album. Before attempting my creating of a CD cover, I have looked at numerous CD albums from my own collection and also from the internet to give my self some inspiration.

There are two CD albums that
have came to mind and have also gave me inspiration in the format on how to publish mine is Oasis's album "Don't Believe The Truth" and Arctic Monkeys "Whatever People Say I am, I am Not"

When I create my Album Cover I would like to create it in the style of these two albums. My idea for the album is to take the photo in black and white like these two albums. I believe shooting a picture in black and white gives the picture a bit more of rugged look to it and gives it that uniqueness that other photos do not have. Due to various shots in my video being shot in black and white, I believe it would be suitable for my album also to be shot in this saturation.

My song is about a Boy Friend and his Girl Friend going through a break up due to things not working in their relationship (The lyrics of this song backs this theory up). So I believe shooting in black and white also gives a semi depressing look, here is an example of how using black and white really does change the mood of the photo.

An idea the Arctic Monkeys album cover gives me, it is a very simple but effective cover. This shot would not take very much preparation, there is no complex editing or camera techniques, it's just a simple filter over the picture with no complexity to it. This is the type of style in which I would like to produce my album cover, very simple, only the one person in the photo and in black and white. I would also like to use the filter which is shown on the Oasis album cover. There is a black circle around the image which gives the affect that the audience is looking through the camera lens at the image. I really like this idea of doing this because its almost the fact that you are there looking at the photo, so this also has given me inspiration.

My video- Target Audience

The target audience for my music video is the age of 18-30. The band and the song targets the adult genre, so this means the video will be relevant towards this generation. I feel the video will be relevant because during this age, a lot of relationships start to take place and also a lot break ups take place so I feel they can relate to this. I feel my video will go with the song of my choice, which means people can relate to both the video and the song which will work together.

The song is about a couple in a relationship; potentially going through a break up. I feel the lyrics are very deep and thought provoking which gives the audience a feel for what the main singer is going through. Throughout the song, the lyrics indicate that relationship is indeed for the age category of 18-30. The lyrics go on to say "For someone that who has a car" this indicates that the age category is between 18-30.
The first line of main chorus is "So what's your problem that white straight line" this line is a play on words. The line is basically saying 'you must be on drugs' because everything I say does not make sense, this backs up this idea that the song is reaching the age category of 18-30.

The main idea for this video, is the main character is drinking heavily because he and his girl friend have broken up or in fact going through a brake up.The character in the video is wearing a suit but drinking a bottle of alcohol, this plays the opposite card, you wouldn't expect these to go hand in hand. As going through a brake up is very hard and stressful, people sometimes resort to drink due to the stress of the hard times. Through my video, by doing this, i'm hoping to express the anger, the sadness and the heartbreak this man is going through and gripping my audience in doing so.

Inspirational Videos

As before I started this project, I knew watching a lot of music videos would help when it came down to filming and editing my own video. So before I even attempted to film my own personal video, I watched over 30 music videos to give my self some inspiration. I watched different genres and different artists which infact gave me a wider variety and also, this gave me an insight into how some genres are portrayed when making a music video. Here a numerous examples of this, I watched a rap video, this song was called "The Motto" By Drake ft Lil Wayne and Tyga. I also watched a music video of a different genre, this was from the Rock and Roll genre and the name of this song was called Supersonic by Oasis.

I instantly noticed a vast difference between both videos and this stood out to me. There are a lot of differences between these videos. First off, the first thing that instantly stood out to me was the Mise-en-scene. In the Drake video, there are numerous shots of the people he is with, and you can instantly tell these people are very rich. As you can see in this photo, they're a number of people wearing gold chains, hats and big parker coats. This is very stereotypical from rappers who are known to be very flashy and are known to show there money off. This picture backs up this theory, there is a line in the song which says "25 sitting on 25 million" which basically means sitting in a really nice car with 25 million pounds. In this video, there are also no signs of where the music is produced, which means no guitars are shown, no amplifiers and no microphones.

I then went onto watch the other music video I was comparing and again found a massive amount of differences. Again the mise-en-scene instantly grabbed my attention, in the Drake video, they're numerous shots of him in a very expensive car riding around the city, also wearing a very expensive parker coat. In the oasis video, they're are wearing everyday smart-causal clothing, jackets, shirts and jeans, no sign of "bling" or showing off. Also the location also grabbed my attention, in the Oasis video, there in the same location throughout the video, unlike the Drake video where they are in a few different locations. Equipment in the video, Oasis are well known for engineering the same sort of platform into each of their music video, with an exception of a few videos, the majority of their videos includes the whole band, performing the relevant song and this has worked for Oasis throughout there reign.

There are 3 music videos that have gave me inspiration on how to set my music video and also ideas in what to include in my video is well. Number one is a strange inspiration because of the fact what genre the song comes from, the song is called "Turn Up The Music" by Chris Brown. This is a strange inspiration due to the fact it is a completely different genre of music in which my band is from and also it was only a short clip from the video. From 0:00-0:20 in the video, it shows Chris Brown in a very smart suit, lying on the road drinking what appears to be a an alcoholic drink.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQWG8BVeryU&ob=av2n The reason I really like this shot is due to the fact it has two affects on the audience, one of them is "why is a man in a suit drinking an alcoholic drink by his self, in the street" and two, "what has forgone before this clip, which makes the audience think and also adds that bit of sadness to the video.

The second main inspiration behind my music video is the Arctic Monkeys "Leave Before The Lights Come On" all though I may not copy any ideas from the video, I enjoy the uniqueness of the video. This video has no miming in the video at all, all though to some this may be a bad idea, but in fact the video really interacts with the audience, and due to there is a story behind the video, it makes the audience really want to watch and this is definitely and unique way in creating a music video but, works really well.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEukS2YN9B8&ob=av3e

The third inspiration for my video is Oasis, "Songbird" again like the Arctic Monkeys song, I may not use any of the specific ideas of from the video but I really like the outlay of the video I enjoy. The song is similar to mine as it is about the singers "girl friend" but there is difference, Liam Gallagher is talking about how he is in love with his girl friend whereas the main singer in my video is singing about the complication in there relationship. The video is a very short video, it is only 2 minutes and 47 seconds long which is very short in comparison to some music videos. The reason I am inspired by this video is that solo-orientated, which basically means the video is just based on one central character and that is Liam in this video. I like this because it makes it easier for the audience to focus on the video due to there only being one character on the screen at the time. In my video, it is mainly solo orientated video, there will be one or two transitions to different characters but mainly just one character. Some people may say the video is very boring when it is just focusing on just one character but when combined with a song, it works really such as Songbird by Oasis so therefore I feel I can incorporate this side of the video into mine.

Shot Location

Throughout my video, there will be numerous shots of different locations of an area, these shots will be in order according to my finished video. Also these photos have been taken during the day whilst the majority of my video was filmed at night,

The first shot location is of me against a wall, this was shot at night because of the theme of the video, This is a very simple location but provided me with an empty background which allows the camera to be focused on me which is vital.

The second location in my video is a brick wall. The shot in my video I am lying on this as it was a bed, I feel it gives a gritty feel to the video and make the watcher feel for the character playing in the video.

This location plays a big part in my video, this is a path which the character walks down, this is a really good location due to the fact it is very quiet, also there is a street light which provides light which allows me to film at night which is a massive positive.

This location a particular favourite of mine. Although in my video, the shot of this clip goes very quickly, but there is two reasons I enjoy this particular location. The first reason is the colouring from the white and yellow signs, just breaks up the dull brick wall and secondly, the sign says "Private Road" which gives the feel that the character is not meant to be there.

This location was used due to the fact not much light shone upon this area, I wanted this so I could create a somewhat shadow effect. Due to the lights being in the foreground, this allowed me to not be shown in full view, you could only see the outline of my body which is effect I wanted to create.

These stairs where used due to the fact they are very steep, this was a positive for me because when a drunk person tries to walk up steep stairs, it is hard to do which allows a more natural action. Also, they are white which means they stick out more and allows the audience to see clearer what he is doing.

This is the first time we see me enter my room, again we see me stumbling into my bed room which again signifies he is drunk and ready to go to bed, this is the last time we see this shot, although there are shots of me in the bed room, I did this to show that he will not be in this location again due to changing his ways.

My bed turned out to be a very important location when filming. I believe a bed signifies rest and calmness. This was evident in my filming when I got out of bed in my video. I used a bed to show that he has had a rest, he has calmed down from the night before and also it is turning point in the video.

This next location was used to set scene for the audience. I wanted the audience think what this man is looking at and what he is thinking of. I believe when a person looks out a window, it is a time for reflection and a time collect your thoughts, and by using this location in my video, I feel it makes the audience think.

After a night out, many people was their face to clear there head. I used this location to show that it was a rough night, and that he was drunk, and almost to say he is washing his problems away which is what I tried to achieve when using this location.

Again stairs is used as my location. This time I have used stairs though, I feel there is difference from the first time you see me attempting to walk up the stairs outside but stumbling and hanging on, whereas in this shot, I am walking down them with no problem and also it also feels as if I am walking away from my problems.

Again this location is favourite of mine in the video, this shot in my video is my favourite due to surprise element in the video. This location provided me with a flat service and a backdrop which I wanted when I shot this clip so I believe this was a very good location.

This shot location again allow the video to tell a different story. In the video it self, you see me reading a paper, and drinking coffee, this is a good shot because you would not expect me to be doing this after what prevailed the night before.

Here is the final location shot in my video. Again this a repeated shot of an earlier shot. This time it is very clearly me exiting the door, instead of me struggling to get in the door. I believe this is a very relevant shot of me exiting the door as it also the last shot of the video is well.
