Inspirational Videos

As before I started this project, I knew watching a lot of music videos would help when it came down to filming and editing my own video. So before I even attempted to film my own personal video, I watched over 30 music videos to give my self some inspiration. I watched different genres and different artists which infact gave me a wider variety and also, this gave me an insight into how some genres are portrayed when making a music video. Here a numerous examples of this, I watched a rap video, this song was called "The Motto" By Drake ft Lil Wayne and Tyga. I also watched a music video of a different genre, this was from the Rock and Roll genre and the name of this song was called Supersonic by Oasis.

I instantly noticed a vast difference between both videos and this stood out to me. There are a lot of differences between these videos. First off, the first thing that instantly stood out to me was the Mise-en-scene. In the Drake video, there are numerous shots of the people he is with, and you can instantly tell these people are very rich. As you can see in this photo, they're a number of people wearing gold chains, hats and big parker coats. This is very stereotypical from rappers who are known to be very flashy and are known to show there money off. This picture backs up this theory, there is a line in the song which says "25 sitting on 25 million" which basically means sitting in a really nice car with 25 million pounds. In this video, there are also no signs of where the music is produced, which means no guitars are shown, no amplifiers and no microphones.

I then went onto watch the other music video I was comparing and again found a massive amount of differences. Again the mise-en-scene instantly grabbed my attention, in the Drake video, they're numerous shots of him in a very expensive car riding around the city, also wearing a very expensive parker coat. In the oasis video, they're are wearing everyday smart-causal clothing, jackets, shirts and jeans, no sign of "bling" or showing off. Also the location also grabbed my attention, in the Oasis video, there in the same location throughout the video, unlike the Drake video where they are in a few different locations. Equipment in the video, Oasis are well known for engineering the same sort of platform into each of their music video, with an exception of a few videos, the majority of their videos includes the whole band, performing the relevant song and this has worked for Oasis throughout there reign.

There are 3 music videos that have gave me inspiration on how to set my music video and also ideas in what to include in my video is well. Number one is a strange inspiration because of the fact what genre the song comes from, the song is called "Turn Up The Music" by Chris Brown. This is a strange inspiration due to the fact it is a completely different genre of music in which my band is from and also it was only a short clip from the video. From 0:00-0:20 in the video, it shows Chris Brown in a very smart suit, lying on the road drinking what appears to be a an alcoholic drink.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQWG8BVeryU&ob=av2n The reason I really like this shot is due to the fact it has two affects on the audience, one of them is "why is a man in a suit drinking an alcoholic drink by his self, in the street" and two, "what has forgone before this clip, which makes the audience think and also adds that bit of sadness to the video.

The second main inspiration behind my music video is the Arctic Monkeys "Leave Before The Lights Come On" all though I may not copy any ideas from the video, I enjoy the uniqueness of the video. This video has no miming in the video at all, all though to some this may be a bad idea, but in fact the video really interacts with the audience, and due to there is a story behind the video, it makes the audience really want to watch and this is definitely and unique way in creating a music video but, works really well.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEukS2YN9B8&ob=av3e

The third inspiration for my video is Oasis, "Songbird" again like the Arctic Monkeys song, I may not use any of the specific ideas of from the video but I really like the outlay of the video I enjoy. The song is similar to mine as it is about the singers "girl friend" but there is difference, Liam Gallagher is talking about how he is in love with his girl friend whereas the main singer in my video is singing about the complication in there relationship. The video is a very short video, it is only 2 minutes and 47 seconds long which is very short in comparison to some music videos. The reason I am inspired by this video is that solo-orientated, which basically means the video is just based on one central character and that is Liam in this video. I like this because it makes it easier for the audience to focus on the video due to there only being one character on the screen at the time. In my video, it is mainly solo orientated video, there will be one or two transitions to different characters but mainly just one character. Some people may say the video is very boring when it is just focusing on just one character but when combined with a song, it works really such as Songbird by Oasis so therefore I feel I can incorporate this side of the video into mine.
